Contemporary Belarusian artist Aliaksey Fedarau
"Fedarau parts easily with the vestiges of the artistic past: one should place them at the cemetery (in a museum) so they would no longer be an eyesore, or dominate the rest of art with its massive, cumbersome ways, like old furniture. This is the only way to exist. Purge the past, free the future.
Aliaksey Fedarau will not read biographies of contemporaries because an obituary is enough. Time moves on and what has gone by, no longer holds the same power. Let bygones be bygones.
Fedorov is eager to fill the newly vacated space with new meaning, new energy. Nothing escapes this fate, not even to the laws of the universe – it's all subject to rearrangement".
Aliaksey Fedarau is wide known for his performances, which are radical and conceptual (many times finished with detention by the police). Fedarau - visual artist is provocative and imprudent.
It is really impossible to define Fedarau’s style or even position because he always tries to modify his works of art.
He works with relevant political events (also Belarussian political situation), philosophical consepts, experimental psychology, posttraditional theory, etc..
Aliaksey Fedarau was born in Minsk, BSSR (Belarus). Since 1990 He attended painting classes in art-studio “Wostrau” and art-studio of Richard May. 2001 he went up to European Humanities University. Few years later EHU was closed by belorussian government and Aliaksey Fedarau went up to art faculty of Belorussian State University and graduated it as a theorist of art.
Aliaksey Fedarau works with comteporary genres of art such as installation, object, media and new-media art, performance, action, etc. He uses Works are kept at the Tretiakov Gallery in Moskow, the Israel Museum, the Museum of Mark Shagal in Vitebsk, art funds of the Belarusian Union of Artists, private collections of Russia, Netherlands, France, Israel, USA, Estonia etc.
Lives in Minsk, Belarus.
